Major update

Better in Hand

Controllers and phones get their second big pass. The menus you use most are now one press away on a controller, phones get floating sticks and a layout you can rearrange, and there's a picture setting for your phone's battery or its sharpest look.

Controllers

  • Your menus are on the d-pad. Up is Auto-run, Left the Spellbook, Right your Character and Down your Skills. Hold Up for the lantern, Hold Left to sheathe, Hold Right for the social wheel and Hold Down to swap shoulders. Hold Menu to chat.
  • A small button guide shows what each button does. While you're learning, each line retires once you've used it a few times. Settings has Learning, Always and Off.
  • The bank and your Satchel work as a pair. Switch between them with LB and RB, and B closes both, so you're never left standing still behind a window you can't see.
  • Every window's tabs show their buttons, tutorial cards answer to the button shown on them, and Home Recall is on Y in the map.
  • Popups answer to A and B. The seasonal event card and the big update notice can be read and closed without a mouse.
  • The tutorial arrow points the way without sitting under an open window or on top of your hotbar.
  • Quick presses stay quick. A tap no longer turns into a hold when the game is busy for a moment.

Phones and tablets

  • Floating sticks. Put your thumb down anywhere on the left side to move (the right side if you play left-handed).
  • Sprint and Auto-run have their own buttons, all 8 ability slots are on screen, and a small pill swaps to your second bar.
  • Arrange the controls yourself. Settings > Touch > Edit layout lets you move and resize buttons over your own game.
  • Pick your picture. Battery, Balanced or Sharp in Settings, and shadows now switch on and off straight away.
  • Characters keep a soft shadow under their feet, even when the sun's shadow fades out.
  • Windows fit the screen better. Crafting tabs scroll, item details open beside their slot, there's one label per loot pile, and tutorial cards stay clear of your abilities and crosshair on small phones.
  • Tap an item to see what you can do with it, and press and hold to pick it up and move it.

Everywhere

  • One name for the hotbar. Every device now says Add to hotbar, Move on hotbar and Remove from hotbar.
  • Rain and snow are already falling when you arrive somewhere by Lamp-stone, boat or Home Recall, instead of fading in after you land.
  • Links to play.whisperedscrolls.com now show a proper preview card in Discord and on social sites.
  • The title screen uses the new Whispered Scrolls wordmark.
  • Each update in What's New has a link to its own page on the website, so it's easy to share.
