Is Whispered Scrolls free?

Yes. Whispered Scrolls is free to play in your browser, and you'll be out in the world in about a minute. There's nothing to download unless you want the Windows app.

What can I play it on?

Any of these, and they all share the same characters in the same live world:

• In the browser, on Chrome or Edge.
• The Windows app for Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit, about 100 MB).
• With an Xbox, PlayStation or Steam Deck controller. Press any button and the game switches over and shows your controller's own buttons.
• On a phone or tablet, added to your home screen so it plays full screen.

Controllers and phones are new and still experimental.

How does the combat work?

There's no tab targeting. You aim every block, arrow, spell and strike, and abilities fire where you point them, so misses happen. Creatures wind up before they hit, and bigger attacks mark the ground first. You can parry a blow at the last moment to stagger the attacker, roll through attacks, and jump over slams and sweeps.

Are there classes?

No. The weapon in your hand decides which combat skill you train, and you can switch whenever you like. There are five combat skills and 21 weapon types, each with its own trait and four abilities. Might covers melee, Precision is ranged, Arcana is magic, Restoration heals and Guard tanks.

How many skills are there?

20 skills, all on one character. Alongside combat there are gathering skills (Woodcutting, Mining, Fishing, Foraging), artisan skills (Smithing, Fletching, Tailoring, Leatherworking, Cooking, Alchemy, Enchanting, Jewelcrafting), Agility, which you train on jump courses, and Bounty for hunting contracts. Players craft their own gear and sell the rest at the Exchange in Hearthmoor.

What's a Scapelike?

It's what players call games in the spirit of the classic browser MMOs: lots of skills on one character, gathering and crafting your own gear, and a big world to level up in. Whispered Scrolls is one, with action combat on top. You can vote for it on Scapelikes.

Can other players attack me?

Not unless you choose to fight. Towns are always safe. If you want PvP, you can duel anyone with rules you both agree on, haul and raid caravans on the roads, or sail to the Lampless Reaches, a lawless zone with the richest resources where you keep your three most valuable items when you fall.

Can I play with friends?

Yes. A party holds up to 5 players. There are 21 instanced dungeons from level 4 to 99, world bosses with phased fights and group quests, and everyone gets their own loot.

How big is the world?

Aethermere is an island 6.4 km across. You start at the harbour in Wickhaven and head north through moors, badlands, dunes, forests and mountains. There are 20 towns and outposts, each with a bank, an inn and a Lamp-stone for fast travel, and 166 quests to find along the way.

Is the game finished?

Not yet. Whispered Scrolls is in open alpha and we patch it often. Every change is in the patch notes, and we'd love to hear what you think.
