Patch

The Same Painted World

Every graphics setting now shows the game the way it was meant to look, and the game is better at picking good settings for your device.

One look everywhere

  • Low graphics and Lighter mode get the painted look. The ink outlines, the colour moods of each region and hour, and the soft darker corners used to switch off on Low. Now every setting and every device draws the same painted world. Lower settings still trim draw distance, shadows and effects.
  • The old classic look is retired, along with its option in Settings.

Better starting settings

  • The Steam Deck is recognised and starts on Medium.
  • Brave and other privacy-minded browsers no longer get pushed to Low because they hide details about your computer.
  • One bad load no longer leaves you on Low for good. After a load that stops part way, the next one starts lighter, and the one after that goes back to your own settings.
  • Automatic quality comes back up. If the game lowered your graphics during a busy fight, it now raises them again once things settle, even on a screen or device that caps the frame rate. An automatic drop is forgotten after a few sessions, so your device gets a fresh look.
  • Phones switch to Lighter mode less often. Closing the game normally, or switching apps while it reconnects, no longer counts as a crash.
