Spears and Tomes in Either Hand

Thank you for the reports on Part Two. This update answers the first of them: spears and tomes can go in your off hand, and the screens around dual wielding and Mastery are easier to use.

Two Hands

  • Spears and tomes now fit either hand. An off-hand spear brings Impale, Set Spear and Vault to your bar, and an off-hand tome brings Bookmark, Psalm and Rewrite, up to two of them as with any off-hand weapon. The Deepforge Hammer, Oathbound Longsword and Warcamp Reaver still need your main hand.
  • Every spear and tome pair ability works whichever hand the spear or tome is in.
  • Three new pair abilities, 119 in all: Pike and Page (spear and tome), Crossed Points (two spears) and Concordance (two tomes).
  • From your off hand, the Scribe and Vanguard keystones and capstones and the tome's Techniques work at half strength. Their other ranks, and the Lector of Ash and Dragoon Paths, need the weapon in your main hand.
  • Gear & stats has a Swap hands button when both your weapons fit either hand (also on the hand slots' right-click menu). Free out of combat; in a fight both hands wait for their swap timers.
  • Drag a saved loadout from Gear & stats straight onto your hotbar.
  • Swap loadout has a key: Shift+Z (change it in Settings > Keybinds).
  • Heals and wards from your off-hand weapon reach you at half strength. Allies still get them as before.
  • An off-hand weapon is lit the same as the one in your main hand (it looked paler).
  • An off-hand spear is carried across your back the other way from your main one, and an off-hand tome rests at your hip.

Mastery

  • The Mastery page is shorter: it opens on the next row to earn and the rows under way, with Earned and Later folded.
  • Locked rows say what they need, for example "Needs Might 50", and their cards say "Needs Might 50 and the feat".
  • A short tip introduces Mastery the first time a feat counts, and another introduces fighting with two weapons the first time you hold them. The Chronicle's Weapons tab has a short page on each, with the levels where Mastery opens up.

Combat

  • Weak-point hits are easier to spot: their damage numbers are gold with a diamond mark, they make a short bright sound, and the tick by your crosshair is bigger.

Looks

  • A tome rests low at your hips, centred, held by its spine with the cover facing out. With two tomes, one sits on each side.
  • A spear or staff held on its own guards with both hands on the shaft.
  • The "Choose a recipe" picture in crafting windows is back to a small icon.
