A rock for every gem. Moonstone, Jade, Tidestone, Sunstone, Emberstone, Skystone and Starstone each have their own rock now. You can mine each one at the same level you need to cut it and use it, starting with Moonstone at Mining 1. Gem rocks take much longer to come back than ore, so stones stay precious.
Early gems close to home. Moonstone rocks dot the starter coast and the low country, Jade grows in the hills around Hearthmoor, and Tidestone sits by the lakes and marshes.
Jade and Tidestone in shops. The Hearthmoor General Store, the Stonebrook and Dunmar miners' shops and Lakehearth Landing keep a few in stock, at a premium.
Changed
Staves, wands and tomes are much easier to make. Every gem is now cut at its gear tier's level (Jade at 10, Tidestone at 20, Sunstone at 30, Emberstone at 40, Skystone at 55, Starstone at 75), so the gem is ready as soon as you can carve the staff.
The first staff, wand and tome need no gem. They use whisper dust from the General Store instead.
Ore rocks turn up stray gems twice as often.
The old mixed Gem Rocks are gone. In their place you will find Sunstone and Emberstone rocks, and in Hollow Barrow mostly adamant, mithril and coal.
